CHK-0128 - SSL certificates are about to expire

Description

  • Solution: Domain Monitoring
  • Type: Improvement
  • Severity:  Critical
  • Protection against: Human Error

This Improvement Check monitors whether the SSL certificates on your web servers are valid and not close to expiring.

Why this check?

To securely transmit web traffic over the internet, web servers encrypt the connection with your computer’s web browser using SSL certificates. These certificates always have a defined expiration date. When your certificate is about to expire, it must be replaced in time. If this is not done, the web server may become difficult or even impossible for visitors to reach.

What are the possible outcomes of the check?

This check has two possible outcomes. In Attic, this is shown as follows:

  • Okay: The SSL certificates are valid and will not expire in the near future.
  • Critical: De SSL certificates are invalid or are about to expire.

How should this be followed up?

If the output is Critical, we recommend following the instructions provided in the ticket within Attic. To update an SSL certificate or its configuration, you may need to contact your website administrator.
